Frequently asked questions

Do new immigrants (olim) get the birth grant?+
Yes. The birth grant is paid for any birth in an Israeli hospital to a mother insured by the National Insurance Institute (Bituach Leumi). New immigrants are insured from the date of aliyah, so a baby born after you arrive qualifies. It is paid automatically — you do not need to apply.
Who is eligible for maternity pay (dmei leda)?+
Maternity pay replaces your salary during maternity leave and depends on the National Insurance contributions paid before the birth — generally if contributions were paid for 10 of the 14, or 15 of the 22, months before the leave. The amount is based on your gross salary, capped at the daily maximum.
Is the child allowance paid regardless of income?+
Yes. The child allowance (kitzvat yeladim) is a fixed monthly payment per child up to age 18 and is not means-tested. The amount per child depends on the child’s position in the family.
What is “Savings for Every Child”?+
Alongside the allowance, the National Insurance Institute deposits a monthly sum into a savings account in each child’s name until age 18. You can choose the account type and top it up from the allowance.
